It can't last long, they'd cripple their own economy.

True... I don't know, there are alternatives, plus depending on the companies they piss off. Nintendo isn't going to have problems since it isn't in Tokyo.

Alright, you have a point, but a game doesn't have to be M rated to be fun. Also if it's just Tokyo that's doing that, the game companies could move.

As for moving indeed it is an option but you need to keep in mind that Tokyo is the media center of Japan and as such has immense influence within the country in that regard.

That is true. Who knows, maybe we'll see a rise in manga-ka coming to America or Canada.

Uh... why has nobody mentioned the purpose of this ban. It's not for the "regulation" as it's obviously not the case. It's for the government control. Anime imposes too much free thinking and government's purpose is to regulate the anime under government controls in order to create more of a group society advancement instead of the individuality that anime expresses saying each person is special.
I find it astounding we're talking about economy and how it would fall when the reverse is true. It is more likely to increase economy in the long run with the people suggested to be into the workforce and increase workload for the OL and Salaryman and further enhance the working ethics and pressure of the Japanese. Recent anime strays from the ideal Japanese society so much the government realizes the need to impose itself on anime to stop what Americans calls "The Freedom of Speech", but just using an alternative route for control.
/facepalm at the people who thought of Japan as a very free country with lots of freedom of speech and have idealized versions of Japan. The only reason Japan is even a free country (on paper) is because it's already under strict social control (in practice). Point is, anime derives from the social norms and not only is it breaking the boundaries of entertainment, the problem comes from that it in itself has become a culture, which the government wouldn't be able to have full control over. This is only the first of many acts to come to put anime under leash in the future.

I would hate that actually... anime influenced by American cultures and idealism would be...
eh, we already have a few of those, let's just say I'm not looking forward to seeing anymore. Heck, I prob won't want to live in US again anytime soon once I graduate college, totally going straight home out of US once I graduate.
(Stan Lee, god damn it, stop writing anime and go back to writing Spiderman... just because he's so darn rich with Spiderman movies now he went completely as an anime author and is putting his Americanized hero shows as anime... not to mention Madhouse and Marvel are irritating with their never dying Marvel heroes in anime...)

But I like Ultimo!
If the Japanese government is trying to control it, then how are we supposed to see the manga and video games that we're used to?
